Internal Medicine programs outside the Match

17 Internal Medicine programs take applications through ERAS but do not take part in the NRMP Match, so an offer from one of these can come before Match week and does not depend on anyone's rank list.

What the list is, exactly, and where the visa answers come from

That is the appeal, and it is genuine. Read the box below before you act on it.

On 2026-09-18 the AMA's program directory answered two filters at once (takes ERAS applications, does not participate in the NRMP Match), and these are the Internal Medicine programs that came back. It does not mean a program is easier to get into, and it does not mean it will offer anybody a place early. Programs change their minds and the directory lags behind them, so treat every row as a lead to check on the program's own site, not a fact about this cycle.

Where a program's own site states its sponsorship, that is what the visa line says and the site is credited. Where it says nothing, the line falls back to the directories and tells you so, because a directory entry is weaker evidence than the program's own words. 9 report J-1, 4 report H-1B, 8 report neither.

Accepting one of these is not a free extra attempt. If you are registered for the Match and you sign a contract with a program outside it, you have to withdraw from the Match, and you give up every program you were going to rank. Doing it without withdrawing properly breaches the Match Participation Agreement. Decide this deliberately, check the current rules with the NRMP yourself, and do not sign anything because a page on the internet listed a program.

One visa route reported 5

A source names one route for each of these; the card says which, and where the answer came from.

3

No visa route reported 8

Neither the program’s own site nor the directories name a visa route for these. That is silence, not a refusal: ask the program.

Read from the AMA's program directory on 2026-09-18 and joined to our data on the ACGME code. Visa lines come from each program's own site where it has one, and from the directories otherwise. Before you write to any program here, and long before you sign anything, confirm both the Match position and the visa with the program and with the NRMP.
